Techno in Ibiza
There are few experiences in the world that can even come close to clubbing in Ibiza, and there are many reasons why it has such a tremendous reputation around the world. One night (and this can extend well into the next day) in these clubs, and you’ll know what the buzz is all about. Ibiza on its own is a magnificent place, with intensely hospitable island culture, a relatively mild heat, and beautiful vistas all around. Add to this some of the best parties in the world, and there’s a sense of why clubs here have such a following. Our clubs are distinctive in their ability to cater to youth culture with excesses of style and grace, providing a stomping grounds for a party that goes on all day and all night.
It’s difficult to spend any time in a club here without hearing the word techno, and there are few who probably really understand what that term really means. Most people will call any kind of electronic or dance music techno, and although they might occasionally be right, there’s more to it than a purely cosmetic similarity. The term does certainly refer to technology and music, but there are some key distinctions that are important to keep in mind. Perhaps most importantly, the music did not begin in Europe, as one might guess, but in the United States. It is very similar in sensibility and development to hiphop and rap, combining forms to create something very unique and sophisticated.
Techno’s origins are generally accepted as beginning in Detroit in the 1980s. Three African-American college students, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, and Juan Atkins, aka The Belleville Three, found their inspiration in a late-night radio program hosted by DJ Charles The Electrifying Mojo Johnson. Their music was a mixture of forms that played with early versions of sampling, and was inspired by ideas drawn from science fiction, and a fascination with and uneasiness toward the future. This was later integrated with some ideas drawn from Alvin Toffler’s The Third Wave, and began to develop with specific and complicated beats, designed to put the listener into a kind of light trance state. There are many lines of development between these early stages and what one will hear in Ibiza, but the intentions to alter the consciousness of the listener are still the same.
Green Surfboards for Ibiza
Have you ever wondered what there is to do on the Balearic Island of Ibiza? Well, if that’s the case, then it’s obvious you’ve never been there. There are a great many natural and human created activities, attractions and events throughout the island that make it an ideal vacation destination, and for some the perfect residential location. There is a diverse and thriving club scene, many historical ruins and cultural landmarks to keep all visitors to the island happy and occupied. The beaches are world known and beautiful, and offer plenty of water sport options as well as a simple and relaxing afternoon or beautiful sunset dinner. Many people have a favorite Ibiza town hotel that they return to every year.
One of the favorite water sports on Ibiza, as well as with most of the rest of the world is surfing. Surfers come from all genders, backgrounds and cultures and many of them share a love for the environment, and particularly the earth’s waters. It is ironic that most surf boards are constructed from toxic substances, though it is also why many surfers are turning to more ecologically friendly boards. Greenlight is a company that is devoted to these surfboards and surfing supplies. Most of their boards are created from bamboo, recyclable foam and resin epoxy.
Bamboo is one of the most renewable and sustainable wood products. The company is a pioneer in creating these high quality boards with innovative technology. The bamboo glassing fabric also requires 25% less product and creates less waste. The surface of these boards can be glassed to an extent that prevents or greatly reduces the need for wax. Part of their mission is to include a service that allows surfers to shape their own, which contributes to a greater satisfaction in the waters. Many instructional videos are available for this purpose. This cutting edge company is just one of many that are working toward creating a more sustainable world with less pollution and toxic waste. It’s great to know that a popular recreational, as well as professional, activity is contributing to the greater good of the world.
Ibiza Golf
Water sports are definitely the most common outdoor activity on the small Mediterranean Island of Ibiza. Hiking and other activities are also frequently engaged in, and one of the most inviting local sports is golf. There are two golf courses on the island, and while that may not be the main reason most people choose to visit, it is certainly popular among locals and visitors often discover the pleasures of the views and the beauty of the open ranges. Guests staying in 5 star hotel Ibiza will have no difficulty in accessing information on courses and renting equipment for this rewarding sport. Many hotels also assist in arranging for transportation.
Both of the island’s courses are located within close proximity to each other in the county Santa Eularia. They are the Ibiza Golf Club and Roca Llisa Golf Club. They are currently merging to form one large golfing complex. The Ibiza Golf Club was established in 1991 and is an 18 hole, par 72 course. It is located in beautiful and tranquil country scenery and offers great views of the Mediterranean. Fortunately for golfers who typically worry about landing a ball in the sand pit, or pond, the sea is far enough away that it doesn’t make for easy mishaps. Though, fetching a ball out of the coastal waters would be more of a pleasure than a task for the golfer. The course has an onsite hotel, restaurant and pro-shop, which caters to the golf enthusiasts. The Roca Llisa Golf Club is a smaller, 9 hole course and driving range. This beautiful club overlooks the cobalt sea and is smugly enclosed by beautiful pine tree groves. It is open all year long. Roca Llisa has qualified instructors to assist with inexperienced golfers who are just learning the sport. There is a pro-shop on site, though individuals may want to venture over to the Ibiza Golf Club for dining and hotel accommodations.
The Caves of San Miguel
Just north of the Ibiza town of San Miguel, there are tapas restaurants that sit just atop a hill, and just at the entrance of one of the islands most popular tourist attractions, the Caves Can Marca. One of the aspects of this island that draws people staying in the best hotels, Ibiza views…and the site of the caves has one of the most spectacular views of the island and of the bay of San Miguel. There are many different species living on the hill and along the path leading to the entrance, one of the most unique being the Muradensis Lizard.
These caves were formed over 100,000 years ago and have since weathered the hot, tropical environment of Ibiza. Once inside the caves, one will notice that most of the internal walls have become fossilized, with the deepest of the galleries filled with stalactites that are still in the process of forming, similar to the deeper caves in the United States Yellow Stone National Park. This site was first discovered by and used by smugglers. They would lift their goods from the sea, and store them in the caves. Many of the markings left by the smugglers are still found on the walls today. Most of them are markings on the walls with the directions of the exits, should an emergency occur, or should they be found out.
This has been a site rich in archaeological artifacts, fauna and fossils of animals. Researchers have reconstructed some of the water ways, water falls, and the pools that were responsible for the formation of the caves. The incredible formations of the rocks and the amazing geological structure has now become a bit commercialized. While some are historically illustrated, others are lit with colored lights and have sound effects as part of the tour. This is one of the most interesting sites on the island, and a perfect day trip to take to get out of the city and enjoy a bit of the incredible landscapes of Ibiza.
