Adult Halloween Costumes and Masquerade Parties

Posted in Leisure  by admin on July 15th, 2010

Last Halloween , were you the one at the party wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt with two circles blacked in with a permanent marker and the word “Boo!” written underneath it? It might have seemed like a good idea at the time — after all, it took a minimum of fuss and effort, but instead of coming off as a cool and ironic ghost, it might be closer to the truth to say that it simply appeared as if you had forgotten to plan ahead.

Perhaps you feel as if procrastination is your problem; if so, you may want to peer ahead into the future by going on-line and finding the right adult Halloween costumes now. You might feel that Halloween is for kids and so you resist the opportunity to dress up as someone other than yourself; the tradition of dressing up has existed for centuries, however, and crosses over many cultures.

Masquerade parties became popular in the 1700s, and, as these “fancy dress” parties evolved, people found themselves wearing costumes of the characters of the stories and poems of the time. Many such costumes were based on historical figures or from famous plays and novels, such as Oliver Twist and Romeo and Juliet.

Certainly that tradition persists to this day, as you watch children parade the streets as their favorite television character. Often adult costumes draw from various roles people have taken in society, such as a 70s Dance Fever costume or a Bohemian Go-Go Girl costume. This year, you’ll want to be ready for the parties, no matter what your choice, as long as it doesn’t involve black ink from a permanent marker.

Lisbon Shopping Adventures

Posted in Leisure  by admin on May 31st, 2010

Shopping is often a top activity when traveling. It is part of what links ones memories to the vacation. When you look at that treasured trinket or put on a piece of clothing, that you got on vacation, you will remember that you got it on your trip to Lisbon and it was a great time. Hopefully.

Lisbon has many great shopping areas available. Catch a cab from your Lisbon hotel and head over to Amoreiras . This is a fantastic, high fashion mall that is filled with lots of great finds. You will be impressed the minute you roll up to the glamorous building. You may find some of your favorite world wide stores inside but I know that you will find something different with some of the stores that are of Portugal. This is also were one may catch a movie, if you can speak the language. The mall provides some fun events for the kids as well.

Another really large mall, actually, one of the largest malls in Europe, is Colombo . Here you will also find a cinema and a good collection of stores. They have something for everyone with the electronic store, the Accessory stores, clothing, perfume and other services available. Come and loose yourself in this one for the day.

Do you like to go up while shopping? Well then check out El Corte Ingles its another big adventure. This mall has nine floors of everything you could think of in home furnishings, cloths, sporting goods and entertainment as well. They have many gourmet shops, cafes and restaurants, one of which is on the top floor on the outdoor terrace with some nice views. It is a Spanish department store and it will keep you busy for a long day.

If you have teens traveling with you, then head over to Armazens do Chiado. This is the popular hang out for the city’s young people. They will definitely find international stores as well as the FNAC store which has the music and movies drawing them in. When your hungry hit the top floor for a good sit down and relax with some city views.

A Working Vacation in Columbus

Posted in Leisure, Travel  by admin on February 9th, 2010

I’ve finally got outside of my hotel room in Columbus after a nasty bout of the stomach flu, or was it something I ate? Anyways, it was time to enjoy the city and I had a few highlights during my weeks stay.

Tuesday, I headed to check out Columbus’s main library, yes, even on a working vacation, I love to be inside a library. Columbus’s library was pretty cool. It’s a working library, which means it meets the needs of the people who use it and not to be like a show piece or a museum like some libraries have a tendency to be. It was full of people and well laid out; I’m thinking maybe the cold weather also had something to do with why the library was full of people, but for me, as long as people are reading, then the world’s a better place for it.

Around the block from the library is the ‘Old Deaf School Park’ along with the ‘Old Deaf School’. The park had a topiary garden that was modeled after ‘Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte’ painted by George Seurat. It was an amazing place, it was so peaceful and it was right in the middle of downtown Columbus! There were people about, even though it was cold out, and I don’t blame them, the park is too inviting.

Wednesday, I met up with some interns at the Buffalo Wild Wings, which wasn’t far from where they work. I got to meet with some interns who started a few weeks ago and got to see how they were fairing with the stresses. It seemed that every one was having a good experience so far. That will be good to report when I get back.

I ended the work week with putting to use, the new laptop and scanner I’ve received from work, I haven’t gotten all the logistics of it yet, but I really do appreciate having the convince of filing my reports via the Internet, so much easier than waiting till I get back to work in Dayton.

Conversations in Hot Tubs

Posted in Leisure  by admin on October 28th, 2009

There are many choices for hot tubs, in style and size and design, and when you start looking you’ll see that you have options that will certainly fit perfectly with your wants and your tastes.  Many people these days are opting for the smaller sizes, because they are easier to maintain, and they make a kind of personal statement.  The moments of relaxation, where you can let yourself go and really enjoy the moment for its own sake, are reserved for you and the ones you love the most.  Two person hot tubs are a sensational alternative to larger spas, because they afford the same pleasure, and take up much less room.  They’re often small enough that they can be installed indoors, so you can have all the privacy you want, and don’t have to bother with the elements.

There are different sizes to choose from in the smaller styles, too.  Two, three, and four person hot tubs all come with a spectacular array of options to make for the experience that you really want.  Variable jets make for uniquely designed water massage experiences that are sure to help ease aching muscles, and help the stresses of the day to melt away.  The smaller sizes also speak to a more intimate social aspect of hot tub living.  They’re built for deep conversations, the ones that can last into the night, either among friends or with the special someone in your life.

Relaxing together is a great way to be closer to the people you care about.  It says that you’re able to let yourself really go, and come back to your senses in good company.  There’s no question that relationships are an extremely important part of living in the world and being healthy.  A hot tub can allow for more moments of calmness and intimacy with the people you really care about.  Of course, they’re not an answer to a life gone out of balance, but they are a splendid tool toward bringing things back into perspective, and open up more possibilities for joy.

Hot Tubs and Home Value

Posted in Home, Leisure  by admin on October 13th, 2009

Hot tubs can be considered as an investment, which is actually what they are commonly oriented to be in today’s market. While in the past they were strongly categorized as major luxury items that only the select rich and lucky could have, today they are often associated with home improvement and property value increases. This does not mitigate or remove the great enjoyment and also the luxury value of them, it simply serves to demonstrate that when considering the purchase of a backyard hot tub, there is more to it than looking at the immediate cost.

Choosehottubsdirect.com is an excellent resource for various questions on hot tub purchases and the effects on home value, as well as a major supplier of hot tubs and accessories. Frequently, hot tubs are incorporated into the overall design of a backyard. There are more accessories and associated entertainment elements that are available as upgrades or separate purchases, that makes the possibility of an entire backyard theme park possible and affordable. In addition, they are frequently included in the planning and construction of a deck.

Some of the features that many people love to be included with their hot tubs are lighting elements as well as stereo and even dvds and televisions. The lighting design of many hot tub models has become extremely dynamic and can provide for an incredible visual experience that greatly enhances the atmosphere of a hot tub party. In addition, stereos are extremely common and music always creates a particular mood. Combined with the effects of the lightening systems, this can be an incredibly relaxing experience, or the beginnings of a high-energy party. Whatever the overall design of the backyard and intended major use of the hot tub is going to be, adding it to the household features will also add value to the home and property.
