Hong Kong Festivals
The up coming months of March and April in Hong Kong are very exciting times with many different events taking place. The events taking place range from music, to sports, to aquatic events, and more. Tourists will be heading to Hong Kong in large packs causing the the hotels throughout to fill up. One of these events that is going to be taking place is the Hong Kong Arts Festival. It is by far the biggest and most extravagant art festival of the city throughout the entire year. There are a number of different acts that perform such as different musicians and instruments, different plays and monologues are performed, and other creative visual acts as well.
Another popular event is the Dragon Boat Festival. This event takes place in honor of Qu Yuan, who is considered a national hero after he drowned himself to protest against the corrupt rulers in the 3rd century. He is honored by people who design boats shaped and painted to look like dragons and a serious of fast paced races take place all day. Food is eaten and music is played all in honor and celebration of the sacrifice that Qu Yuan made.
Another big event is the Hungry Ghost Festival. This event takes place because the people believe that years ago the doors of hell opened up and tortured souls escaped and can cause people harm. During the festival people gather in the streets and have parades, pray, and start fires in the streets to keep ghost away. The people burn gifts and money in the fires in an attempt to keep the ghost and spirits happy.
