The Hague has a ton of influence around the world. It’s only the third largest city of the Netherlands and it’s not the capital of the country but it is a very powerful city. It has almost 486,000 people and it is about 60 miles of historical city. If you include all the sub cities there are about 6.7 million people living in the area. It is the seat of government but not the capital, that was give to Amsterdam. The States-General is here as well asĀ  Queen Beatrix. She lives and works from The Hague. There are many foreign embassies and sections of government that are in the city along with many courts including the world court.

Visitors can come and stay at a luxurious hotels Den Haag has to offer and see the many sites of the city. It has a lot of history and many of the streets and buildings are left from the medieval times. Many old eighteenth century homes built for the rich Dutch families are still there. People can explore the old 15th, 16th, and 17th century churches and palaces. The government buildings started going up in 1850 when the city began its role in governing the country.

There is also the World War II damage from bombing that of course was rebuilt. There is the Atlantic Wall that was built through the city that made it possible for the Nazi occupants to tear down a large quarter of The Hague. At one point in the war there was a navigational error that caused the bombing of the Bezuidenhout quarter by the Royal Air Force. This was a heavily populated and greatly historic area. Five hundred people died and there are still some remains to be seen even thought they built up the area again.
