A few short days in Dubai

Posted in Travel  by admin on September 9th, 2009

My girlfriend and I stopped in Dubai for three days and two nights. We were on our way to Pakistan coming from the United States. We planned the Dubai stopover, because a friend of mine who works at one of the top luxury hotels Dubai UAEĀ  is world renown for, offered us a great break on the price of a room. This wonderful gesture proved to be very convenient and valuable for us. Not only did my friend meet us at the airport when we arrived, but he drove us around and showed us the usual places, like the Palm Jumeirah, the Burj and various other well known resorts. He took us to shopping malls and some very interesting other sites in Dubai.

What he also did for us, was to arrange a desert safari I had no idea my friend was this fantastic, but now I’m for ever grateful that he is my friend. We also got to meet his family, who settled down in Dubai for about thirty years now. After resting for a few hours, back at our half-priced hotel room, we ventured out to the Dubai city mall. As my friend had to work, he let us take his car anywhere we wanted to go. As we drove from the hotel, the city seemed like it was swallowing us whole with a rather thick haze, which was told to us as just being dust. The road were so wide, which made getting around easier than we thought. We saw many shiny new buildings and construction cranes on either side of the road. When we arrived at the mall, we went directly to the food court for lunch. We recognized many of the food court restaurants, including Krispy Kreme and KFC, but we decided to go for the Middle-Eastern cuisine at a Lebanese place. The food was delicious and cheap.

I went to a store in the mall to buy something special for my wonderful friend who made our trip to Dubai special and memorable. I hope he likes elephants.
